For neurons to communicate, their axons must navigate precisely to their targets through a complex process known as axon guidance or neuronal migration. This process is governed by a network of molecules that attract and repel growing axons, steering them into place — but this system is not infallible.
To better understand the signals and processes of axon guidance — and determine how errors arise — researchers rely on antibodies targeted to key signaling proteins and growth cone receptors.
About the collection
IPI’s Axon Guidance Antibody Collection comprises well-defined, recombinant monoclonal antibodies with high specificity for axon guidance signaling proteins and growth cone receptors. Generated via yeast display technology, these antibodies enable high-confidence targeting of proteins that have historically been difficult to identify and interrogate with conventional reagents.
IPI antibody purchasers are provided with access to data on antibody and antigen sequences, biophysical characteristics and performance in standard assays. All IPI antibodies go through extensive characterization, including:
- Molar mass verification via mass spectrometry
- Purity and structural integrity analysis via size exclusion chromatography
- Affinity and kinetics measurements via surface plasmon resonance
- Non-specific binding assessment via polyspecificity reagent assay testing
- Cross-reactivity analysis of all target family members via flow cytometry
- Validation in at least one standardized application
- Community-led antibody evaluation, with data available in the Addgene Data Hub
